Letter to the Editor from Chris Morey of Lunenberg
To The Editor:
On Nov. 2 we will have the chance to go and vote for who we want to represent us. Those who we elect will then go to the state house and represent us. After they are elected don’t forget about them until the next election. If you want to know how your representative votes on different issues you can find out because it is all public record.
I was interested in how my representative, J. Peaslee voted on the minimum wage bill when it came up. This is what I found:
The original bill called for an increase in minimum wage with a cost of living adjustment that would take affect each January. When I checked to see how J. Peaslee voted on it I found that she had voted in the negative. It was brought up to a vote to remove the cost of living adjustment from the minimum wage bill and she voted in the affirmative for that. When they came to the third vote and had the minimum wage bill stripped way down she voted in the affirmative finally. So the minimum wage went up by fifty cents.
Another bill that was for members of the general assembly asked for a pay increase for members. Before this bill was accepted they added state contract, executive branch exempt pay, judicial pay adjustment and other miscellaneous provisions onto it. J. Peaslee votes in the affirmative on this bill. So this gives the representatives a raise in pay and other related legislature compensation benefits while they are in session.
This leaves me to wonder just who those we have elected to represent us are representing?
