Dear people of Essex County,
It’s unlikely that I will be able to knock on every single door in the district and share my ideas, but if you would take a moment to read this, I would like to share with you an idea that I KNOW CAN WORK. Once elected, I want to immediately garner support from fellow legislators and introduce a bill that will give our Vermont Seniors the much-needed financial relief with property taxes that they need and deserve. The Vermont Senior Work Off Program or S.W.O.P. for short will allow Vermont Seniors who qualify with age and income requirements to donate so many hours within a year to their community in exchange for a deduction in their tax bill.
Not only do I believe it is our moral obligation to look out for the older generation, but eventually one day we will be the older generation. I deeply believe in being pro-active to situations, not re-active. Yet unfortunately this is where we find ourselves. I believe it is better to take action than to never take any action at all. We have so much to learn and gain from our Seniors.
For this idea to become a reality, I need you to send me to Montpelier. Your vote does count.
If you have any questions, would like to learn more about S.W.O.P., or would like to help in any way, please contact me. I will make it a priority to come to your home and answer all your questions to the best of my ability. Thank You.
